The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) welcomes the first meeting of the EU-UK forum for regulatory cooperation, which took place on 19 October.

Adam Farkas, Chief Executive of AFME, said: “The inaugural meeting of the Forum presents a unique opportunity to lay the ground for a cooperative, stable, and trusting long-term relationship by ensuring structured dialogue on both jurisdictions’ regulatory initiatives and priorities.” “The Forum should be designed to facilitate exchange of information on the functioning of regulatory frameworks as well as on key regulatory developments for financial services and their implementation. The Forum should also provide a platform to allow both jurisdictions to identify and share concerns related to any emerging risks to financial stability. It should also form the basis for cooperation on common challenges such as climate change and the digital transition. Ideally, a strong bilateral regulatory dialogue should comprise both structured discussion and ongoing informal dialogue at working level, and we hope that the meetings of the Forum will allow for cooperation to intensify at all levels.”
