About us

(View German webpage)

AFME is the leading European capital market voice with over 175 members, representing the leading global and European banks active in Europe’s capital markets. AFME’s objective is to advocate for deep, efficient, resilient and integrated financial markets which will be key to enabling the EU’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, strengthening its competitiveness and fostering its transition to a digital and greener economy. We aim to engage constructively and use a facts-based approach with regulators and supervisors at European level and Member State levels to reach this objective.

AFME is convinced that Germany has a strong leadership role to play in contributing to the development of European capital markets. In 2017, AFME established its own office in Frankfurt, as a base for our outreach activities in Germany, adding to AFME’s existing presence in London and Brussels. Once a year, AFME organises a European Financial Integration conference in Frankfurt, bringing together leading policymakers and the industry.

How we work
Working closely with AFME’s policy teams, we aim to formulate and deliver well-articulated, fact-based positions to policy makers, to ensure high quality input into the development of regulatory frameworks. Our work this year has been focused on stressing the ongoing importance of market-based financing to ensure that post-pandemic corporate recapitalisation needs, as well as the significant investment requirements driven by sustainable and digital economic transformation, can be met.

We are keen to build relationships with local organisations, including financial sector trade bodies, buyside and corporate sector associations, academic institutions and think-tanks.

The office is staffed by Dr Richard Middleton, Managing Director, who focuses on developing stakeholder relationships with local trade bodies and regulatory and supervisory authorities in Frankfurt, and Arved Kolle, Associate Director, who is responsible for building up relationships in Berlin and liaising with the ECB.
