About the conference

AFME’s 10th Annual European Post-Trade Conference, “Safe and efficient Post-Trade - time for action”, took place on 18 May at The Berkeley in London. It was a successful event; 200 senior professionals attended to hear over 30 leading industry speakers discuss the regulatory changes and reporting requirements that will shape the post-trade function of the future.

The event included keynote addresses from Ugo Bassi, Director, DG FISMA, European Commission and Michael Mainelli, Executive Chairman of Z/Yen Group.

In his keynote speech, Ugo Bassi discussed the financial regulatory agenda. The departure of Britain, the EU's biggest financial market, had raised questions about the survival of the CMU but Ugo said it remained a flagship project. He said Brexit meant there was an even stronger case for CMU though the approach needed to change slightly: "We are going to develop a new agenda”.

Amongst other topics, speakers also discussed the influence of passporting following the Brexit negotiations, LEI requirements, the rise of blockchain use in settlements and previewed the new due diligence questionnaire.

Attendee David Thomas, Deutsche Borse, said: “AFME's Post Trade Conference is an unrivalled networking opportunity in this increasingly important sector.

“The discussions and speeches offer focused insight into the topics and trends most affecting the clearing and settlement industry as well as a useful temperature check on the evolving market zeitgeist.”
