AFME Press policy

The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) welcomes media coverage of the majority of its conferences, webinars, meetings, seminars, workshops, dinners and other events on important industry issues and topics.

AFME recognises that press coverage can help facilitate a broader understanding of industry issues. At the same time, however, in order to meet the information and educational needs of its members, AFME enforces a few key policies regarding the media:

  • Reporters must register in advance for all events.
  • Press, along with audience members, must identify themselves and the name of their publication when asking questions at events.
  • Press must wear conference name badges for the entire event.
  • During plenary panels, speakers may be identified and quoted. However, reporters must first obtain permission to quote audience members who ask questions or comment during an event.
  • Most of our events are on-the-record, however, where specified, for closed or break-out sessions, journalists should operate under the Chatham House rule which states that participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed. Speakers may, however, be quoted if they give explicit permission for a specific quotation to be used after the session.
  • Journalists must identify themselves as members of the press when speaking with attendees during informal conversations at events . Any interviews should be conducted separately.
  • Journalists are free to use tape recorders and laptop computers as long as they do not interfere with the proceedings.
  • Permission to photograph or film onsite at AFME events must be authorised prior to the event.
  • AFME reserves the absolute right to grant or deny permission to film and to determine the terms under which filming will be permitted.

This press policy applies to both in-person and online events.
