AFME elects new Chairman of the Board

The Annual General Meeting of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) has today elected Michael Cole-Fontayn as the new Chairman of the Board in succession to Frédéric Janbon of BNP Paribas, who has completed his two year term.

Michael Cole-Fontayn is Executive Vice President at global investments company BNY Mellon where he is a Member of the Corporate Executive and Operating Committees and Chairman of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). He has been a member of the Board of AFME since December 2011 and serves as both Treasurer and as a member of AFME’s Executive Committee. Frédéric Janbon said: “I would like to thank AFME’s members and the Board for their support over the past two years and congratulate Michael on his election. Michael brings in valuable experience and expertise to the Chairmanship.”

Michael Cole-Fontayn said: “On behalf of the Board I want to thank Frédéric for his tremendous commitment and leadership over the last two years. During his tenure AFME has become a stronger voice for the financial industry, respected across Europe and globally. AFME and its members are committed to working with regulators in shaping Europe’s capital markets in support of the European Commission’s economic and employment growth agenda. I am delighted to continue this important work.”

Simon Lewis, AFME Chief Executive, added: “On behalf of the team at AFME I would like to thank Fred for his leadership over the past two years, it has been a pleasure to work with him. Michael has been a very engaged member of the Board since 2011, with an acute understanding of the relationship between flourishing capital markets and economic growth. I look forward to working with him to drive this agenda further. ”

Guy America, Co-Head of Global Credit, Securitized Products & Public Finance at J.P. Morgan, has become Vice Chairman, in succession to Colin Grassie, formerly of Deutsche Bank, who has left the AFME Board, alongside Kostas Pantazopoulos, Global Head of Interest Rate Products at Goldman Sachs.
