AFME held its 2011 annual dinner, hosted by its chairman, Gael de Boissard, at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel on 12th October. Some 180 invited guests, including politicians and regulators, senior figures from the European financial sector and leading financial journalists, attended to hear a keynote speech from Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank, just a few weeks before retiring from the post he has held for the past eight years. Sir Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England gave a moving and personal vote of thanks to President Trichet, recalling how they had first met some 40 years before.
